Salem - Donald Eugene Stoffer, age 92, of Salem, died on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Continuing Health Care of Lisbon.
He was born on April 24, 1931, in Salem, son of the late Leo and Mona Sloan Stoffer.
Donald had worked as a salesman with Sears before trying his hand at farming for a few years, after farming he began truck driving. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, belonged to the Left Handers Golf Club and was a member of the Leetonia Highschool Athletic Hall of Fame. Donald also liked to spend his time, golfing, fishing, and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their sporting events and various activities.
Donald is survived by his wife, Verna Jane VanFossan Stoffer, whom he married on November 21, 1954, son Douglas Shelley Stoffer of Wernersville, PA; daughter, Christina "Chris" (Dale) Sweeney of Lisbon; four grandchildren, Chad (Michelle) Stoffer, Adam (Jessica) Stoffer, Aaron (Jennifer) Sweeney and Colin Sweeney; two step grandchildren, Katie (Zach) McCalicher and Rick Greir and numerous great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Wilde and two brothers, Earl Stoffer and Danny Stoffer.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 12 noon – 1:00 pm at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leetonia.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Leetonia, with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 American Legion Honor Guard.
Donald had chosen to donate his body to the Northeast Ohio Medical University, NEOMED, which is where his grandson Aaron attended
Burial will take place at a later date at North Georgetown Cemetery.
